Sunday 29 May 2017 marked the start of Child Protection Week, a time during which there is a special focus on issues facing young South Africans under the age of 18.

APD’s social work team contributed to the week by arranging disability awareness and advocacy events. We targeted the four special day care centres for children with disabilities in our Metropole (Siacamva, Miracle Kids, Linga Tots and Happy Feet) by facilitating the events and developing pamphlets which were distributed to the parents of the children at these centres.

In total the campaign reached 130 parents and we trust that staff at the centres will continue spreading the message that the rights and dignity of vulnerable children with disabilities should be respected and protected in line with this national call for the protection of children in South Africa.
