We received phenomenal support at our Disability Month Awareness Protest last week. Our APD team of 35 staff, workers and management were greeted by an early morning cacophony of hoots and friendly waves.
An interview on leading local radio station Algoa FM and an article in The Herald newspaper ensured our disability awareness message was spread to the wider community in Nelson Mandela Bay.
APD Director Brian Bezuidenhout commented: “The purpose of this campaign is to escalate the awareness of people with disabilities and their rights.”
“We believe it is a sector of society that is not being paid enough respect in society.”
“There are 100 000 people living with disabilities in Nelson Mandela Bay. They are not a minority group but rather a significant group that is not getting a fair deal in society.”
