Did you know that hypertension is the #1 cause of stroke and heart failure?
Every year World Hypertension Day is observed on 17 May. In line with the 2018 theme “Know your numbers”, a team of professional nurses visited APD to test the blood pressure and blood sugar levels of our young adults in the AbilityCare Adult Centre as well as our workshop workers and staff members.
The program kicked off with a fun ice breaker which had the young adults participating in physical exercises. Following the screenings, the nurses continued with a health talk which highlighted the importance of good eating habits and regular exercise.
Our workshop workers and staff members were up next. By the end of the day, the nurses had tirelessly screened 45 of our people. Those who recorded high blood pressure and sugar levels were referred to their nearest clinics for treatment.
To remind everyone of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, an information package on Preventing and Controlling Blood Pressure and Diabetes was given to each worker and staff member who was screened on the day.
